Review on πŸ”Œ Enhance UPS Network Management with APC AP9630 Card 2 by Jennifer Garrard

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good hardware is a shame for software.

I had the Network Management Card installed, working and configured, but I needed to take the final step, setting up email (SMTP) notifications. This is an important and fundamental function. I would have thought APC would put this through its paces; up and down, but no. (APC doesn't test much, I see!) The attractive web interface software got stuck in an endless reboot loop and finally showed the strange message "The application is not compatible with this APC operating system". No reset. in hardware or software will erase this meaningless error cycle. My time is valuable. Two hours for this was enough, so I took out the card and threw it in the trash. This is not enterprise grade firmware and without high quality, proven software the value of the product will be greatly reduced. Save time. If the UPS (SMX750) suffices without email notifications, then it's a very good and quiet (nearly silent) UPS, but if you want the added features of a Network Management Card, avoid this line of UPSs entirely. If you were a guru you might be able to debug the TCP/IP stack, but why would you do that for a potentially mission-critical commercial product? "Quality at APC is 2.89a work!"
