I bought these for Halloween decorations - to put inside. So far they're very reliable when turning on and off, and I like that convenience. However, if you place it in a conspicuous spot, you won't mistake it for a real candle - the plastic looks cheap and the bulb is clearly just a bulb, not a flame. It does have a flickering effect, but it's not one of the new-style candles that's actually moving the wick - it's just some sort of bulb. Also the color of the "flame" is very yellow-gold - in my opinion more than a real candle. They're still good for purpose and price.
