Non-replaceable batteries. This means that your purchase (along with the holes you drilled that don't match my previous alarm clock) is a one-time purchase, and if the battery in the device dies prematurely, you don't just have to throw it away, you disable it first. That means finding a screwdriver and turning the slot on the back of the alarm clock... if you remember how to do it when it eventually fails. and still going strong except for one in my office. I was so disappointed to see that I couldn't remove the batteries from this unit to replace them! Why should I throw away a working alarm clock just because the batteries died? As another reviewer mentioned, don't accidentally turn off the alarm... which, to be honest, would be almost impossible given the tiny cutout on the back to turn it off. battery and not in front of the wall mounting ring where it is screwed in. In other words, while the baby is crying, the dog is barking, and the wife is asking why the alarm clock is still beeping, you squint in the middle of the night trying to turn the damn thing off. Ask me how I know. The battery cannot be pulled out. And the coin doesn't fit in the slot. Have fun remembering how to disable the damn thing when it dies. I spent 8 minutes trying to find a nonexistent battery box. About the fire alarm from three days ago. I do not recommend buying.
