Smells old on scalp treatments

I don't know how long it will last but the product I bought smells like an old man (no offense to old people) and as I verified the production date on the packaging - 5 years. I received an expired product and that's why it smells so bad and doesn't seem to do anything for my scalp? Completely disappointed.
