Update 87 miles on 12/29/22: Still great! After seeing a significant price increase on my regular running shoes and on my regular running website, I went to Amazon to see if they had the same or something comparable at a lower price. I don't know why I was offered these "Whitons" to choose from, but now I'm glad they were. I bought my regular pair of sneakers but I was quite intrigued after reading some of the Whitins reviews and their composition and design. to buy a pair. I did this as an experiment to see how they compare to my $100 more purchase together. When both pairs of sneakers arrived everything was as expected. My favorite brand was securely packed in a branded shoebox. The Whitins were stacked in Amazon mailboxes: a left shoe and a right shoe that were taken from a storage rack and boxed for shipping. However, they appeared to be of very good quality. The design was no less attractive than my usual brand. They looked like good running shoes. Before my first run in them, I joked with my wife that I wouldn't go far from home just in case I had to carry them in potatoes again. Then I put my feet down. It was the feel I expect (and sometimes don't get) from my high-end picks. Cushioning was excellent, the upper and sides felt like they were hugging my feet. The tongue and back were soft and comfortable. So I started jogging. As I ran, I tried to gauge the direction and extent of my prejudice toward these shoes. Did I want a positive experience because I'd like an inexpensive alternative to overpriced big brands? Have I been too critical to justify my considerable spending over the years? I ran 6km on my first run. For comparison, I'm 185 pounds, have some knee issues, and a typical run is around 8:30 a.m. on sidewalks and off-road. I had the perfect run. The shoes were stable. The impact on the ground was comfortable on my legs and knees. The shoes showed no signs of wear other than a little dirt. I did a couple of gaps on my second run in these shoes. I ran 200 meters at a pace of 7:15. I beat up these things. They felt incredible. The next day I expected my knees to scold me a little for the intervals but I was fine. I've ridden almost 30 miles in these shoes now. They are a really great pair of running shoes. There are always potential issues with an item this cheap, like consistency in production, but based on this pair I'm wearing, I'm taking that risk. I have no doubts that when the current pair hits 300 miles I will be buying another pair. My "main brands" sneakers are still in the fashion box.
