Best thing for the money, glad I did it.

I use it on d7200 (24MP). The lens is noticeably sharper than the Nikon AF-S 80-400 (second model) on similar FRs. At 500mm on an open aperture, it is able to give pixel-by-pixel sharpness on a 24MP crop sensor - an excellent result! The best solution for wildlife photography with pom. Nikon. Only Sigma-sport is better than it, but it is 1.5 kg heavier (almost 2 times!) And 1.5 times more expensive. This specimen with a dressed carcass can still be held in hands without using a tripod or monopod - this is extremely important. They write that AF is not very fast, but to be honest, I have never experienced problems when shooting flying birds and moving animals. The stabilizer is very specific - when shooting small objects, I prefer to put it in the Sport mode, regardless of the mobility of the target - so there are many fewer defects. In general, there is very little defect from the lens, and this is with the d7200 with the old 51-point AF system - it should be even better on the d7500 and d500. Regarding the weight, you should immediately think about carrying . I turn the tripod leg up, hook it with a screw to the belt, which clings to the straps of the photo backpack with carabiners. This allows you not to hold the 3kg structure in your hands when carrying it. The front lens was protected by a filter. Due to the large size, there was nothing to choose from - the easiest way was to buy a native Nikonovsky, it is the best in terms of price / quality ratio (~ 9 thousand). The Manfrotto Pro Light RedBee-210 (~11 thousand) is perfect as a photo backpack - you can vertically place a lens with a carcass and a hood on it, get it from above. No existing holsters (including the Think Tank Holster 50) are suitable due to the weight of the design, its length, and the diameter of the hood. All these inconveniences - the price of accessories, weight, carrying system, suitable photo backpack are compensated by the quality of the photo, commensurate with the result of professional equipment for $5000+.

Pros
  • + 500mm at F5.6 + fully working on an open aperture on all FRs + good stabilizer + fairly fast AF + relatively low price
Cons
  • - Quite heavy and bulky - expensive filters due to the huge size of the front lens
