Review on Pre-Assembled 6Ft Self-Regulating Pipe Heating Cable - 120V By HEATIT For Efficient Winter Protection by Louis Abrams

Wrong design… does not work

I bought the 3 ft length for this product to protect a copper drainage line and the instructions are very confusing as it says that the temperature sensor should be at the end of the heating cable or at the splice with no picture explaining their meaning… so I don’t know if it will work since the bulky round stuff on the cable is next to the power plug and there is no way it can be installed at the end of the pipe and plugged to power at the same time. So I hope, the temperature sensor is at the very end and that the bulky thing is just the electronic controller as I only have half a foot of exposed pipe and the bulky thing is inside the basement where I can get power.Update 5 Jan. 2022:it has been freezing for several days now and I went to check the temperature on the drain pipe when it was -9°C outside. The product is supposed to kick off at -3°C and the temperature measured on the pipe was -8°C which confirms to totally wrong design where the temperature sensor is at the wrong end of the cable.

Pros
  • Comes pre-assembled, ready for installation – saves you time and hassle.
Cons
  • The product may not have enough insulation to efficiently heat pipes in extremely cold weather
