Left (see image) This item on the right is a competitor's product from Zilla Reptile Décor Malaysian Driftwood ASIN: B001F9CUY4, also bought from Amazon for about 3/4 the price of Zoomed. As you can clearly see you get a lot more bang for your buck with this product but the Zilla wood was a nice addition. I have two 10 gallon tanks and I put one in both tanks and they look amazing together. I boiled all the wood for about ten minutes, then let it soak for two days, changing the water when it turned dark brown. Then I put them in my aquariums. They didn't swim. After three days I don't see any change in water color in any of the tanks. One of the tanks has carbon in the filter, the other doesn't. My shrimp are crazy about the Zoo Med tree and there are many nooks and crannies for them to explore. This was a great purchase and while I try to buy as much as I can from my local fish shop the wood prices were prohibitive so I tried looking here. Yes, it's a gamble, but I don't think I wasted my money. Remember that any natural substance can change the color of your water, even if you soak it first. And a natural substance, even when cooked, can become riddled with bacteria in your aquarium because it is rich in nutrients - this is normal. In fact, it is desirable that you have shrimp - they eat the resulting biofilm. Overall I am very satisfied and will definitely buy again if I should buy another tank.
