In fact, they won't lay flat unless the inside of the plastic nut is completely flush with the bottom of the tank. In fact, I like these plastic clasps better than metal clasps as I'm always afraid of breaking china with metal. Once the plastic nut is screwed in place a plastic cap on top and it will stay on by friction. Has anyone else noticed loose screws besides me? Probably no. But now I feel a little happy when I realize that they are covered.
