Review on X-Acto X3038 Multi-Material Scissors: High Performance, Heavy Duty 3MM Stainless Steel Blades in Black by Nicole Mcleod

Incredibly sharp but incredibly uncomfortable

Surprisingly sharp scissors but they are so uncomfortable I can't use them. I use these scissors almost every day to cut leather. I used to use Tandy leather scissors (red) but decided to try something else as the red pair fades quickly. Xacto scissors cut like a dream, but they're definitely not designed for comfort. The finger slots (technical name?) are way smaller than any pair of scissors I've ever used and it's so much discomfort for me, even with small to medium women's hands. In the third photo you can see how much pressure on my fingers, white and pink, compared to the second photo where there is enough room for the fingers to sit comfortably. Another problem that makes tight spaces even more problematic is that scissors are like that. damn hard. It's like the screw or whatever is holding it in the middle is too tight and the blades can't move freely unless I literally pull them apart. The video shows I almost can't open them with one hand compared to the Tandy scissors which open and close easily. Not sure if I just got a bad pair, or is that how these scissors are designed?

Pros
  • Large symmetric handles for left and right handed people
Cons
  • Without automatic scissors

Relegated KitchenAid scissors to the basement. Love my new Xactos.
