They are a bit small. Aloy (striped tabby) and Worf (black shorthair) weigh about 6-8 pounds each. Gus is almost 6 months old but half Maine Coon and weighs 4 pounds. They are all a medium size and I wish I had the large for Aloy. It can grow beyond that in the strap areas, although they are all quite thin. As other reviewers have said, when in doubt, order a size larger. However, it is fantastic. No, Worf and Aloy didn't want to get involved the first time. It was like, "I don't know how to walk and cat at the same time," but I took her to a very interesting spot in our backyard and let her orient herself. The harness does impede jumping, but after a few moments they sniffed around, and after two outings on the same day, they found the harness an acceptable admission fee in the backyard. Gus was taken aback by the seat belt, but his clumsy behavior was more than a game to try. I like the design. Worf took it off the first time, but only because I didn't tighten it enough. In fact, he felt more comfortable and confident, if comfortable. Once I understood that, I saw very clearly that they would not, and would not, run away from the dishes. I will almost certainly take 2 large ones just to be prepared for the inevitable growth of Gus and in case one of the Aloy Worfs grows even more.
