White Slime - Air Pump Accessory

Parts appear to be of good quality, valves work well. But after about a week, just the tubing from that kit started to get covered in white, nasty mucus. Completely closed tubes, nowhere else in the aquarium. I don't know what it is and we rode our bikes around the aquarium so I don't know if it's poisonous but I do know it must have come from that tube.
