Review on Sensibo Air: Apple HomeKit Certified Smart Air Conditioner Controller with 60-Second Installation, Energy Saving Features, and Compatibility with Google, Alexa, and Siri by Michael Herrera

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Real comfort; works with Apple HomeKit; some security/privacy issues

The device I ordered from Revain never got to me due to a weird Revain execution error so I re-ordered directly from the manufacturer. I'm impressed with Sensibo Air. Set up was seamless and completely controlled via the app. I was able to get the device working on my configured network, which is blocking Internet of Things (IOT) traffic. The app can do everything the remote can do. The Apple HomeKit integration does what I need, allowing me to turn the air conditioner on and off, set the temperature, and select fan-only mode whether I'm home or not. or gone. Remarks. • The Sensibo application will not work without permanent Internet access. After the initial setup, you can use the basic functions of the home control application without external internet access. Controlling Sensibo Air via Apple HomeKit is a workaround. • I have not checked whether Sensibo Air complains when its external Internet access is revoked. I hope that the device doesn't "call home" unnecessarily. (I prefer to let Apple HomeKit manage the broker when I'm away from home because of HomeKit's security policies.) I'll update my review if I try to tighten firewall rules on my Sensibo Air . • The privacy implications of Sensibo's built-in geofencing feature (which can turn the air conditioner on when you get home and turn it off when you leave) is unclear. The Sensibo app requires access to location services during the initial setup of Sensibo Air, but after that it will work without location access (assuming the built-in geofencing feature is disabled). I'll update my review when I try to create Apple HomeKit-level arrival/departure automation for Sensibo Air. (Again, I prefer Apple HomeKit to process my location data again, since HomeKit's privacy policy is aware.) • There is a silly UI bug in the Sensibo app. If you pair Sensibo Air with HomeKit during setup, the Sensibo app will display the HomeKit QR code as well as the manual setup code. If you don't have another iPhone or iPad, you can't scan the QR code. The manual setup code cannot be selected and copied, so you have to write it down on a piece of paper, switch from the Sensibo app to the HomeKit app and enter the code manually. Finally, I would like to point out security and privacy issues. are common to most home control devices and should not put you off. Setup was easy, the Apple HomeKit integration works, and the Sensibo Air is very easy to use. I look forward to using it this summer!
