Review on ๐ŸŽจ Revolutionizing Art: The NeoLucida Camera Lucida for the Modern Era by Carla Anderson

Interesting but not perfect!

This product deserves credit for finally bringing a modern and affordable version of the old Lucida camera to the general public. Long only available in expensive vintage form, this is the first mass-produced device of its kind in decades. However, manufacturers can overestimate user-friendliness; While it has a simple form, it's far from easy to set up efficiently, quite difficult to keep in place once it's created, and a steep learning curve to get beyond rudimentary results (in in many ways this is what it is it should be used to - make preparatory sketches for a more finished drawing or painting, and not directly to carry out finished drawing). It also has a very limited field of view (for me) due to the tiny prism and aperture. While it can be set up for drawing small objects and still lifes, it's harder to see how it could be used for landscapes or even large interior scenes - a factor not mentioned in the information I've seen. It also requires very precise lighting conditions. for effective work - a bit dark, and the subject is difficult to see on paper; a little too light and you can't see your pen or pencil on the paper to trace over. While it may be widely available, it may not be for everyone. If you are interested in art history or optical devices, that's great; If you are also patient and looking for help drawing, it can be a blessing. However,

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Doubtful
