Review on Activated Charcoal Countertop Distillers for Distilling by Jason Staggs

Breaks apart easily, a bit too big for my Megahome, poor quality filter

Having used several of these filters in my Megahome still I am posting to warn that this Filters are of very poor quality. First, the filter is a bit big for the megahome filter holder. I have to work to squeeze it in and make it fit. Most importantly, the filter breaks down badly after about 3 or 4 uses (1 gallon of water per use). I "distill water" about every other day (sometimes daily). Between distillations, I take the filter out to let it air dry (so it doesn't get uncomfortable if it sits wet in the filter holder and isn't used for a day or so). Every filter I've used has left black residue in the filter holder. Also, I've found that after about the 3rd or 4th use, each filter breaks down badly, leaving a lot of charcoal residue everywhere (if I let it dry). To be honest, a lot of charcoal leaking from a used filter is a little scary. The original filters that came with my Megahome burner never behaved like this. Also, the flavor added to the water by these filters is nowhere near as good as the original filters. So now I go shopping to find filters like the original filters that came with my Megahome burner and throw the rest in the trash. Unfortunately, I really wanted to like her.

Pros
  • Works with Megahome water stills and others
Cons
  • Not trendy
