Review on Chrome Square Push Pump Soap Dispenser by simplehuman, 22 oz. Capacity by Ryan Farias

Revainrating 4 out of 5

This is the best soap pump on the market but don't expect it to last beyond the warranty period, it's designed to fail.

I could give this review 5 stars but I can't for one good reason. The pump handle is designed to fail after the warranty period and if it fails sooner we will happily replace it. So this is a worrying review as some will not believe what I am explaining. Check out the chrome pump handle where there is a pin it spins on. The stylus is stainless steel and if the stylus were longer and had a head on the outside of the handle, that alone would extend the life of the handle for a very long time, but not forever. The handle is chrome plated, but not metal that can withstand the harshness of many soaps. Over time, a small area where the pencil sticks to the metal handle gradually corrodes, or rather, the metal oxidizes. What that means is easy to explain: the metal gradually crumbles into dust. Eventually the pin can't hold up and the handle will pop out, making it impossible to pump the soap. As far as I'm concerned about that, I'm pretty sure I've replaced this grip more than once and bought more than one of these pumps. Isn't it crazy, the best soap pump you can buy is designed to fail after a period of time. This time will depend on the type of soap you are pumping, very mild soap will last a little longer but using Dawn will greatly reduce this time. That's why mine failed during the warranty period, I use Dawn in my pump. I just spent a little time using a metal punch to force the pun out and replaced it with a stainless steel bolt with a stainless steel nyloc nut. Side. The screw was the perfect size and this pump lasted much longer than the original design allowed. This is very typical of American companies, they make products that are designed to eventually fail. How else can they keep money flowing into the company to pay bills?
