Slicer is extremely easy to use. Although it is plastic, it is hard plastic and looks sturdy. It's great that there are no unnecessary parts to constantly insert and remove. It's compact for a small space, and the handguard slides open and snaps securely on top when not in use. It is very secure as there are two locks for both the cutting blade and the straw. The protective cover keeps food safe and slides easily over the food slicer. I always recommend using a handguard. You may need to cut some vegetables into smaller pieces so that the guard can grab the vegetables. The only downside is that even with the thickest slice setting, it still slices very thin. Julien is also very thin. However, I don't focus too much on this aspect. For the combined compactness, safety, ease of use and easy cleaning, I'm willing to forgive a small downside of this food slicer, which is very thin slices. Makes cutting onions easier which was worth buying.
