I started using the Cokin filter system with Minolta X-700 lenses many years ago. I've always found it easier to fit a filter or two into the mount than to unscrew/unscrew the filters from the lens. The holder is useless unless you buy the right size adapter for your lens. The holder can accommodate multiple filters at the same time as well as a circular polarizing Cockins filter. I just leave a filter holder attached to each of the two lenses I have for my Nikon D90. Of course, that means buying a mount and adapter for each lens. The size of the adapter should match the size of the lens, but the filter holder part of the adapter is a standard size that fits the holder. So I have a p-series adapter for 52mm and 62mm with one mount each. Since I keep the holder/adapter on the lens all the time, I also had to buy a Cokin P-series lens cap (a square black piece of plastic that fits into the holder slot closest to the lens). one holder, then one adapter for each lens as the holder simply snaps on/off the adapter. The filter holder can be rotated on the adapter, making it easy to adjust the orientation of the filter. Please note that the p-series is designed for larger diameter lenses. ; the a-series is for smaller lenses. I don't remember the limit of using the P-series vs. the A-series, but since I have both large and small diameter lenses, I chose the P-series so that all my filters could work with them any lens size will work (using filter sizes a and p would be expensive and lavash). Visit the Cokin website for more information. Weaknesses: Looks weird on lens; makes lens storage a bit awkward if you leave the holder on the lens like I did; more expensive than standard filters - adapters, holders, lens caps, then you can buy filters. This is the "system" you follow. You will need at least one holder, an adapter ring that is the right size for each lens size you intend to use, and some filters (which only work with Cokin holders). Holders, adapters and lens caps cost around $25-35, filters average around $25.
