I used to put wax in a heating pad. Then you need to drain the melt and clean with paper towels. No longer! This makes switching between the cubes easier and saves time. You have no smell. You don't clean them. I thought they were of great value. I'm so glad another reviewer mentioned them with a warmer rating. When you get tired of the wax or the smell goes away, remove the liner from the heating pad and insert the next one. Wait for the first one to cool, then throw the wax in the bin. So easy! What a great idea! Someone said they would fall apart. I have not experienced this. I bought a bag - 10? - I've only used 3 over and over for two months and they still work. Definitely recommend them.
