This filter is a joke. It is designed to filter out sediment, chlorine and other contaminants. I measured the quality of tap water with a TDS meter. It showed about 500 ppm or parts per million (which is actually illegal for a city to have water with that many pollutants). After running water through the filter for 1 minute as directed, remove any debris from inside the filter before use. Black water came out after turning on the faucet (probably due to activated carbon dust from the charcoal, which is not unexpected) and after about a minute everything seemed to be working properly and looked clear. I started testing the water going through the filter and it removed less than 50ppm which is like water going through a folded towel. I would not drink this water. This filter is a waste of money. Get something that works. I don't understand why there are so many good reviews. Apparently no one controls the water they drink. CM. i will return this
