I bought this unit to replace a hanger that had a natural wood base that had split after years of use. I believe they referred to this tree as being made from a rubber tree. I'm not sure exactly what that means, but I suspect this device is made out of some sort of composite material that's actually stronger than most cheap real wood trees. In any case, this wood still has a very attractive appearance with an even, medium-brown wood grain. It's very easy to assemble, everything but the legs is bolted together with a strong metal-to-metal connection. The legs are simply inserted into the grooves of the vertical support, but then fixed and additionally supported by a wooden block that is screwed into the lowest part of the support. Only time will tell if the device proves to be as durable as it seems. I also have some doubts that the fixed staggered pin layout will prove as user-friendly as my old rotating flush pin tree. But now I am very happy with my purchase.
