The volume buttons are aligned with the previous/next song buttons, so the only way to turn down the volume is to hold the buttons until you hear the tone. But you have no real control over how high or low the volume goes unless you use your electronic device to turn the volume down. What is perceived as the previous song button is instead the next song button and vice versa.
