Bought the Max XL unit for a Christmas gift, it is great, no unusual smells while it is running.Bought another one for myself, it is like it is a cheap knockoff made by a different company.The unit produces a burning plastic smell, which gets worse with use, does not burn off andstop smelling. Also the buttons are very hard to push, I have to put a hand behind the unit tokeep it from sliding away when pushing buttons.Returning it for a replacement, we'll see if I get a "good" one on this roll of the dice.Update 1/17/23: Replacement shipped to me be Revain is good, no burning plastic smell!What I have noticed is that of the 3 units I have received, the 2 with no burning smell were made in China, but the one that did have a burning plastic smell was made in Thailand!
