I took my 2002 LS430 to my local Lexus dealership to have my A/C serviced, which was giving me intermittent air problems. out of the ventilation slots. Towards the end of my long ride, the amount of cool air coming out of the vents was greatly reduced. However, the minimal amount of air flowing through was very cool. This problem only occurred during long drives (more than 3 hours of continuous air conditioning operation) on particularly warm days (90 degrees, 70% humidity, hot summer day in Atlanta). The Lexus tech told me that this aftermarket cabin air filter was restricting airflow from the fan through the evaporator. As a result, the evaporator wasn't getting enough warm air from the passenger compartment to keep it from freezing, given the air temperature I set on the AC: COLD and forced air (which is maximum cooling). I can't say anything negative about the air cleaning power of this special activated carbon filter. This is actually the 3rd one I've bought. But I found a weak point in its design: the heavy carbon coating reduces airflow through the filter. It can also affect your system depending on your location or driving conditions. I know it cost my wallet around $200 ($150 for servicing plus $50 for the official replacement Lexus cabin air filter).
