This is nylon, which is very convenient when you travel with children. The bags turned out better than I imagined. I wore them all day and they were still comfortable. I was able to fit 2 Contigo water bottles in my pockets. the main pocket (which is actually on the opposite side of the 2 front pockets.) There are 2 side water bottle pockets, which are quite small so are mainly for disposable water bottles. There are also 2 zippered side pockets and I use one of them for my phone. For the price I was so happy with it for our last day trip. Not too heavy like a normal backpack, but not as neck-heavy as a shoulder bag.
