never worn water shoes. I needed a pair that looked like shoes, not ballerina neoprene. When hiking in fast-flowing waters, tightness is required for reliable attachment of shoes. as opposed to "bottom" shoes. Used them in Zion 7/14 National Park on a "narrow" hike - 4 miles each way in water with a fast flowing mountain river bottom to top. walk fully in the water, starting from the ankle up to and including the chest in some places. Believe me - a unique journey. Highly recommend if you happen to be in the area. The shoes worked very well. never came off. dries well.
