I switched to this case from a USB 2.0 dongle adapter after it had a power outage. I wish I had updated sooner! The transfer rate from the old spinning disk was 122 Mbit/s, and all disks I tested were recognized without any problems. I was concerned reading some of the other reviews of larger drives, so the first step was to update the firmware. If you google "Cable Matters Firmware Update 202019" the first link is a KB article which has a link to download the flash utility (included with the firmware file) and instructions. The firmware was updated without problems and my test disks on 3 TB and 6 TB are read without problems. (I assume if you're in the market for an external SATA dock you're experienced enough to update the firmware on the device.) Other Notes: The Power LED serves as a drive activity indicator (nice surprise) This drive also comes with a USB-C cable, these aren't cheap cables (I paid $9 for the last one separately) so it works on my 2017 MacBook Pro too. no problem.
