Review on πŸ“‘ Top-Performing K40BCMAX 20,000 Watt Helical Coil CB/10-Meter Antenna - 26 MHz to 30 MHz by Dan Olsen

Revainrating 3 out of 5

A great working antenna, but will loosen as the mounting threads expand.

Excellent antenna - sounds loud and proud. Easy to set up. With little effort we managed to reduce the SWR to 1.5. The main complaint is that the antenna keeps coming loose at the base. There's no way to tighten it other than by hand and with the aluminum base I'm afraid if I press too hard it could strip the threads. The threads seem to be loose after a few thousand kilometers. Yes, I ran into some low branches - the thing is tall and my mount doesn't allow it to be set up at a right angle - so I have to go straight up. It probably has something to do with it, but it seems the vibrations of the wind and the road keep the thing loose all the time. I literally have to tighten it every few hundred miles. There are no instructions. PDF is not available for download. I called K40 and they said they would call me back. I also had issues with a k40 Hive mount that arrived with an incorrectly threaded mounting nut. I am currently looking for a way to mount this antenna better. Other reviews I've read say that heavy duty springs don't help much with this antenna as it flexes at highway speeds. I held my mount tight enough to secure the antenna while still allowing some movement if I hit an object overhead. I will avoid the K40 next time as there are no instructions for both mounting it on the Hive Stud and for this antenna I bought. and the inability to find anything online. Even the support rep who promised someone else would call me back said he didn't think there were any instructions. I was hoping he could email me something in PDF format. I hope they call me with some answers. Very frustrating. I understand that monkeymade antennas are the best built, but they don't have an adjustable (tunable tip) and I don't want to cut the tip off to get the best SWR since I might move my antenna to another vehicle (big rig) in near future.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Easy serviceability

One of them rattles when I close the door, but otherwise I think they are working okay!
