Aromatic, smooth, bottomless, decadent and ethereal.

I practice calligraphy as part of my zazen practice. I've always wanted to try solid ink and finally got these. I have to say that my first experience with mascara was quite disappointing because I didn't know how to use it. I struggled with the mascara for about a week before finally feeling it. This ink is definitely not for beginners in fine arts as it requires a lot of dedication to get the desired results. I'd say don't get this if you're into western calligraphy as this ink is strictly for serious Chinese or Japanese kanji calligraphy and sumi painting. The ink is for a brush, not metal tips. The ink should be pitch black. To get to the point where the ink is no longer gray and transparent, the ink needs to be a little thicker than water in consistency. I don't know how to explain it, you can experience it when you start grinding. When you drag the ink pen to the bottom of the ink whetstone, draw a line and can see the bottom clearly, then the ink slowly retreats and covers the line. Grinding the ink itself is a pleasant Zen practice. because the ink gives off a unique sweet scent that I can't compare to anything else and I can't stop smelling it while I'm working with it. As your artwork dries, the ink will speak and shine. It also produces little shiny dots that are really amazing. The ink has texture and depth. As your work dries, expect to see ridges and you'll know where each strand of hair on your brush stroked the paper. I work with large brushes and can only say that it is a lot of work. You have to rub between each character, but it's worth it, no other liquid ready-to-use mascara compares to this one. This is truly amazing and underestimated. Highly recommended for experienced artists. If you're a beginner, don't be discouraged, there's nothing wrong with trying. That's how you learn. You must strive for greatness at all costs. This is the way.
