I always wear fat helmets and am very happy with them, even and especially with mountain vikings. I've had a few different mountain bike accidents and the helmets have always served their purpose. In particular, I once had a fairly severe blow to the head that didn't cause injury because it bounced off the helmet. (Let's not talk about a broken shoulder, though.) These helmets are very expensive, but I usually "don't have any money left over" when it comes to protecting my head, so I'm willing to pay dollars. But I can't say if the protection is proportionally better than cheaper helmets. Yes, they are absolutely very good. But are they twice as good as $140 helmets? Not sure. I think maybe we pay 100% premium for 10% better protection? But maybe it's a bargain for some.
