I was only able to get this to work for a short time and then my signal only rose by about 32dBm. It doesn't matter how many "bars" you increase or not, the only real way to know is to look at dBm. I also had to keep my phone within 1 foot of the internal antenna part to achieve this elevation. The distance between the indoor and outdoor antennas must be at least 30 feet in line of sight. This means that mounting it on an outdoor wall and having an indoor antenna directly inside might not work and cause buzzing. (unless you have a metal wall) I can't easily get that distance between them. I tried several layers of foil in between and it seemed to work, but then the light on the internal antenna turned red again. All antennas seem to take up space no matter which brand you choose.
