generally very good, but with limitations; recommend belt and braces

In general, the shelf is of high quality, the material and workmanship is good. The device comes mostly assembled which is pretty nice, they could send the buyer a few parts and leave the assembly to them. A few caveats and recommendations: Other reviewers recommended "higher quality" hardware with longer screws. I bought some longer screws, 4.5" x 5/16". Don't use the recommended 3/16" pilot bit, it's too small, the hole was so narrow I ended up shearing off one of the Lowe screws which required a lot of extra work. The best pilot drill size is 7/32. ", this still tightens the bolts adequately, but greatly reduces the chance of you shearing one of them off while tightening. Washers were missing in my opinion, I put flat washers on each bolt provided, so six bolts four Bolts Holding the horizontal tubes I think this greatly improves the strength of the installation All the pre-assembled hardware uses nylon lock nuts and they were all very loose and needed tightening, don't over tighten or the rack won't fold but they were so loose that many of the nuts weren't even fully seated on the bolt and there was a lot of play. Some questioned whether the tires would hit the wall or not, others complained that the larger tires definitely would.I tend to , agreeing that the larger sizes I put on the rack are dia Ser of 25.5 inches, and with the two horizontal tubes distributed at the widest holes, my tires e two rise to the challenge. However, I don't think it would be a problem if they hit the wall, but don't expect some oversized truck tires to work well. Hardware failures on this rack (regardless of overall quality), I expect one of them will fail one day. At least one other reviewer complained of a failure that caused his tires to fall off the wall and cause significant damage I drove two very large eyebolts just behind the top corners of the post and used two steel ratchets to then secure a strong loop of rope that I threaded through the wheel hubs and to each eyebolt. The luggage rack ever falls off I'm sure the rope and eyebolts will catch my wheels/tires and prevent damage to the car parked directly below. A few bucks for basic insurance in my opinion.
