Review on Samsung T5 Portable SSD MU PA500B by Michael Eldridge

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good device, bad Mac software

I'm a big fan of the device itself, but I've had serious problems using it as a Mac user. One non-Mac related issue is that it just isn't as durable as it sounds. The USB cable connector is made of cheap metal and bends easily. Not suitable for technology of this general quality. But the proprietary software that comes with it poses a problem. It often stops recognizing the drive when the computer goes to sleep, requiring a disconnect and reconnect. I always get a message that the drive was not ejected properly after it was *mounted*. recognized on my laptop. An hour later I found the problematic file and replaced it with a backup, after that everything worked. In short, it's nice to have all that storage in our hands, but Samsung should come up with a product that connects and runs on a Mac - we're on the way. past proprietary accessory software in the present. And while we're at it, they should at least make the software bug-free.

Pros
  • Durable finish
Cons
  • Corrupted
