Ordered this for our cat after realizing there was no longer a litter box in the house. We placed it in the bedroom window on the side of the house. We have a regular foundation, so our window sills are far off the ground. Since our cat is older, we built a small, unobtrusive staircase up the brick wall to the windowsill for her. It took about 4-5 days to teach him how to use the stairs and get in and out of the door. He's a bit stubborn and stubborn as a cranky old man, but that was achieved with the help of tuna (his favorite treat) and flattery from his loved one (my son). After pushing the door valve for him for the first few days (with delicious tuna on the side where he wasn't), we switched to opening the valve just a little, just enough for him to start tipping his head , and then we release it gently so that he puts pressure on his head. When he went away we undid the shutter a little and repeated. This helped him understand that he could push the lid with his head and it would pop open. A few days later he had it right. Then it was only necessary to make him too stubborn and force him to go to "his door" to come during the meal. He has been using it perfectly for about 2 weeks now and comes and goes like a ninja. :D There are two reasons for only 4 stars: First, it would be better if you could lock it for entry only or for exit only. It can be closed only or completely. Secondly, it was not sufficiently weatherproof against drafts. It is now winter and it was immediately clear that not only the ceiling but also the sides had to be insulated. We bought some at the hardware store to attach to the sides, but it would be nice if the manufacturer included enough. This issue can depend on the exact size of your window and where it falls within the area. Not critical, but something to be aware of. I feel overpriced, but since we couldn't find other pet patio door options, they have the luxury of taking as much as they want and people will pay. I will update this.
