Durability Fails in New Mexico's hot summer weather

ADCO has always been famous for its RV and trailer covers. I bought one thinking it would protect my 18 foot trailer from the New Mexico summer sun. I bought the suitcase in early April and unpacked it as soon as it arrived. I left New Mexico for the summer and returned in late fall. I inspected my covered trailer and from a short distance everything looked fine. I removed the ADCO cover on December 14, 2019 and it literally fell apart along the flat part of the roof. Apparently the summer heat and extreme heat in New Mexico caused the coating to become brittle and crumble into powder when touched or moved. The lid is eight months old when properly installed. There were no eaves or sharp objects to cause premature failure. The TV antenna on the roof (Weingard) was covered with a soft cloth in the lowered or retracted position. The small booties for draining raindrops have been carefully adjusted. The lid appears to be made of a material similar to soft grocery bags. There just isn't enough UV resistant material out there. The sun killed. The ADCO lid fitted perfectly and was fairly easy to install and attach. I would recommend that two people help with the installation, although one person can do it. The product may perform and last better in more temperate climates. This one will be unusable in less than eight months. Look for a more durable product. This is not recommended or approved. Additional note: the lid helped keep the heat out on the roof. Many of the seams on the trailer roof need to be resealed because the trapped heat has dried them out, tearing them and degrading them. Recommendation: If you live in a hot climate, do not use fabric covers. Park it under a solid open cover.
