I use this stand on the counter for my everyday laptop, my tablet and sometimes my wife's laptop (not usually all at the same time). The stand is very sturdy and fits most small laptops. I say MOST because there are many laptops that don't really fit. This stand is technically adjustable from below, but basically one of the two holes could be sacrificed if it was factory adjusted at all. However, it's heavy and solid, so there's little chance of it tipping over or the laptop falling out. There is enough rubber in the slots to cushion the laptop and ensure I don't scratch the devices when plugging and unplugging. I've been using it literally every day for the last few months and will continue to use it in the near future. I'll let you know if it breaks somehow, but I don't see it being possible.
