Once the batteries are charged, press the locator on the base and it registers this and all other handsets. Caller ID, call waiting and call blocking work. They can store 3000 numbers compared to my last Panasonic set which had 50. It even communicates with a mobile phone (haven't tried it yet). I have 5 tiers and 5 phones which are neat and attractive and take up little space. Calls can be turned off, volume adjusted and redial time saved. The biggest surprise was the low price. Really good deal.
