Flattens out very well but has poor button placement and doesn't ramp up to 400Β°

I'm Afro-Caribbean. It worked just as well as a flat iron on my 4A hair. In fact, it straightened the strands while my hair had volume and movement (which requires me to take conscious steps to achieve this with a flat iron). It also feels lightweight and has a protective barrier around the comb area that runs through your hair. This barrier is like a second comb on a real heated comb, but the tips of the barrier are not heated. This helps protect the scalp from burns. However, the top and sides of the barrier will get hot, so be careful not to hold the side of the barrier against your head for too long while brushing. Although it wasn't really a problem for me. What I don't like is the location of the buttons, they are right where you need to hold your hand. I accidentally turned it off or changed the temperature several times during use. In addition, it does not rise to 400 degrees. It doesn't really matter to my hair, but my mom and sister have coarser hair and I'm not sure they achieve the same level of smoothness on their hair. I will test it and update this review. Update: Works really well on my mom's and sister's hair. When used, they require smaller sections of hair. It makes her hair look straight, just not SUPER straight, which is actually fine as we all prefer to have a bit of fullness in our hair. It can straighten my hair when used at 400, but I personally use it below to intentionally achieve a look similar to what 400 achieves on her hair. Definitely a good product.
