I have had several wine coolers over the years including silver gel coolers (Vacu Vin Rapid Ice Wine Chiller, Chrome) which are effective but look cheap and stand out from other sources in wine advertising differentiate . This one is best of all because it's thorough and educational, but it works very well. It's stronger than silver gel because it has a thick, durable coating and elastic straps on the sides. There is much less risk of accidental puncture and it stretches to fit better in bottles with less risk of bursting. After using it dozens of times I found that it looks new while the gel gel products fray at the edges and feel like they are falling apart. It also works better as a gel. I suspect this is because it has a larger volume of gel-like substance and also fits well on top to chill more of the bottle. The only downside is that it's black so can do a little worse in the sun as it heats up faster than silver. However, it's usually easy enough to install in a slightly shaded area. Considering it costs twice as much as the silver gel option both can go, but if you plan to use it more than a few times this one wins in my opinion because it's much more durable and therefore a long-term one is a better buy (and more efficient and attractive at the same time). I gladly ordered a second one as a backup and to get rid of my silver strain. For your health!
