Recommended purchase for flood fill users but with extra precautions

Overall a good product but it falls short of expectations mainly due to the 12 hour claim and a few minor annoyances. I overcame some of its limitations with little hacks that I read in other comments and I'm very happy with the result. For context, I've had both Chemex and Bodum double wall screeds and part of the reason I bought this product is the issues I've had with it. Chemex did not retain heat and, being an all-glass product, inevitably had a limited lifespan in my home. The Bodum had better heat retention but then again after losing two to a collapse we just needed a different solution. For more context, my usual routine is to brew and immediately pour into a thermos to take to work on weekdays. On the weekends, I cook a larger pot for my wife and I, and the pot is usually ready within a few hours. In this respect, our requirements for the product for long-term heat preservation are low. Now that, oddly enough, you know more about me than I do about you, let's move on to the product specs. Positives: - The wide base makes it very unlikely that it will tip over, so while the funnel is glass I'm not overly concerned about its durability - the steel and glass construction limits long-term exposure to plastic (depending on how you feel). it) and feels solid Vacuum insulation keeps coffee warmer longer than single-wall coffee makers; Coffee stays warm enough for 2 hours - goes bad easily when a glass funnel is attached - looks fine on a counter metal filter, however, due to issues I've had with possible sediment clogging and oils, it works well with other thin metal filters, I always tend to Plus using filter #4 in it - a simple, well-placed crease allows the filter paper to sit snugly against the metal filter. It seems you'll have to jump through a lot of hoops (preheat, fill as much as you can) to come close to that 12-hour coffee-hot claim. To be honest, I don't need the coffee I brew in this pot to be tepid after 12 hours, so I don't think I'll be opening a lab notebook to do my own testing anytime soon. - sustained (actually more of a drip encouragement) so I usually pour onto the side of the cone - if you unscrew the funnel and use the lid I can see that anyone with even slightly small hands will struggle to handle the base - it is simply not meant to be grasped; Since it's easier for me to lose weight with a funnel attached (despite the drip irrigation drama above), I bought the silicone stopper used in Chemex and other pour-overs to improve heat retention without the lid - a simple solution that works in that respect For full functionality you'll have to buy something extra - if you disconnect the funnel from the base (either to clean it or to use the lid) there's a good chance there'll be a leak at the connection the next time you pour after brewing; I think it's partly due to thermal expansion and maybe partly due to limited dry draw ability; A simple hard twist when you realize it fixes the problem, but it's easy to wonder why you should do it when other companies have clearly figured out how to get a good seal the first time. Bottom line, there are some minor annoyances, but the product is essentially a buy and I'd recommend it, especially if your coffee habits are similar to mine. I hope the company will take some of the often-repeated criticisms into account in the comments to improve their design, as I feel their product caters to an ill-filled niche in the pourover market.
