I wear them under quilted shorts and it makes my rides on rough roads (dirt roads) much longer! The underwear is padded where there are no shorts and thus definitely offers more protection for the female anatomy. The combination of this underwear and soft shorts is as good as it gets for a comfortable ride, but don't expect 100%; After more than two hours of cycling, however, I didn't feel much pain "down there". The only not so positive note is that the elastic on the lined panties really digs into your skin, but since this is no ordinary underwear what difference does it make as they aren't for "not showing off". Very happy with this purchase. I bought a size up (regular briefs, I wear small, I chose medium for these cycling shorts and recommend going up a size. In my case, they still dig into my flesh along the elastic contours and are otherwise pretty spacious) ).
