These are well made handles and very strong. I particularly like that there are two latches on each side of the handle, which helps keep the handle secure. Since my kayak weighs almost 100 pounds, I did not use the included hardware and instead used marine grade rivets. For lighter kayaks, the included screws will likely work. No problem lifting the kayak off the ground with one handle, very safe. With both handles on either side, I can easily maneuver the kayak in my roof rack system, which I wouldn't be able to do with the tethers. Note: Before inserting the rivets, I lubricated the holes with marine grade silicone to ensure a tight seal. Also, a 3/16 hole had to be drilled through the handle attachment points (padded webbing only as the plastic holes were big enough) as there was only a small hole for the included screws.
