This is my fourth HP laser printer and by far the lightest and smallest (I bought my first Laserjet II in 1990 and it was $2000!) It replaces the HP 2055dn which unfortunately started the pages to smudge, probably due to a bad fusing unit. Unfortunately, it's cheaper to upgrade than it is to face the expense and uncertainty of repairing the old one (a fuser costs $110-$190!). This new block works fine. I set it to "IT Management" so my software doesn't automatically update (or auto-break) over the internet. I manually set the IP to match the old printer and then just started printing. I didn't have to change the printer drivers on our Macs. I've printed single-sided and double-sided via the print dialog settings with no problems, and tested OSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion). Once it's online, manage it from the built-in web interface. like the old models. It has many many options but I only set the IP address. (You set the control mode at the first start via the control panel). A pleasant surprise is that this mode works with legal-size paper; This was not the case with the old 2055dn. Very fast! Quit printing short jobs before I'm done. Basically, this printer is used to output documentation, so speed is important. It comes with a main toner cartridge that I think will last around 3,000 pages. As others have pointed out, one annoyance is the blinking beacon when it's in sleep mode. . It's a bright white light and it flashes like a traffic light. You can see it outside my house at night! It might even help robbers find prey in the middle of the night, so good job HP designers! At the moment it is solved by sticking the bright LED in the switch with stickers. I do not recommend using adhesive tape as the adhesive may eventually interfere with the switch's operation. I think you can lean a notepad against it, or maybe paint over it, or get creative with stickers. That human factor design flaw aside, I'm glad to have a lighter, faster, more feature-rich, and less expensive printer to replace ports, especially as the new school year approaches. :)
