Works great with Shimano tuning.
I switched from a Shimano setup to my production mountain bike. After installing this with an X4 derailleur and a Sram chain, it worked great and saved me a few grams. No, you can't use this with another brand's derailleur (and most likely a chain). I was also able to keep the cassette and chainrings. This is definitely a Shimano system upgrade. You won't find anything better in this price range.
