At first they were a nice green. However, after a month they turned brown. They also appear to be nothing more than leafy moss wrapped in green threads that aren't even the same shade of green as the moss, so are very visible. These strands detach and snag on anything be it plants, driftwood and even get sucked into the filter air intake causing the ball of moss to quickly unravel and get stuck in the filter impeller which almost jammed my filter if I did . don't take it right away. . Another problem is that they are difficult to sink. Squeezing under water to remove air bubbles also does not work. Two sank after 3 weeks. 2 months later they were swimming again. Pooh. I wish I could spend a few more dollars and buy Marimo moss balls. I think they are good for other purposes. Perhaps as a non-aqueous decoration. Who knows. All I know is that they are not that great for aquariums.
