They tend to fail when the poorly designed heater core case and heater core explode and the coolant splashes everywhere and some of it seeps through the fan motor and accumulates on the working part of that part. Otherwise things would probably take forever. They appear to have better thermal design quality than most non-OEM replacement parts at a slight price premium. It's easier here to pay a few bucks and never think about it again.
