TAKE A RISK WITH YOUR CORAL

I've only had this lantern 2 days and am already unimpressed with its quality. I have this on my small show tank with some new frags. The tank is deep so the light needs to be 100% bright to reach the bottom. The first day this light was fine, I set the timer and clock, adjusted the lights and checked the ratings, everything looked fine. At night the white turned blue and the blue disappeared. On the second day. The lights came on in the morning, I didn't wake up before the lights came on so I don't know how the transition went. At noon I had to leave the house to get supplies for the tank, I was gone 45 minutes. When I got back to the house, the lights were completely off. All of my coral retreated as if it was night, meaning the lights were out for at least 20 minutes. I turned the light back on manually and after 3 hours the light went off by itself. THIS LIGHT IS UNRELIABLE. The top of the lamp becomes VERY hot. This may be a factor as to why this light keeps going out. The tank is 78 degrees and is in a house that stays at 71 degrees all day with good air circulation. There is no reason why this light cannot burn, other than poor quality. When each coral costs between $48 and $200, I think it's unreasonable to think that a $58 fixture is a good choice. As soon as I can go back to the store to buy a kettle I'll be back. I have no idea how anyone gave such good reviews unless they use it 100%. Risk your coral to save some money. I will stay away from it.

Pros
  • Great construction
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
