As far as I know, this is the world's first 49-inch ultra-wide 144Hz IPS panel. Monitors in this range tend to be VA panels, and in my opinion, as well as in the opinion of many other people, IPS is VA -Panels superior. You get much better colors, but the downside is that IPS doesn't get as bright as VA panels, so things like HDR aren't as intense. For me, the compromise is worth it. The easiest way I can describe the experience of using this monitor is having two 27 inch monitors side by side, but obviously no frame in between. It's just an insane amount of screen real estate. Combine that with this monitor's high resolution of 5120 x 1440 and I can't think of a screen size that even comes close! Let's talk about screen real estate for a second here. As a content creator, I use the Adobe suite of products all the time. I often use Premiere, Photoshop and Lightroom at the same time. I used to have to work with one while the other was minimized, or at best two on screen at once. Now I can see all 3 on screen at the same time and I can't overstate the positive impact this has had on my workflow. Just turning my head to see the app instead of dragging it off the taskbar really cut down on my overall editing time. As for the theme of this monitor, I LOVE playing on it! I'll admit I'm not a huge gamer, but I do enjoy playing Red Dead Redemption 2 every once in a while. Your game should now support ultra-wide 32x9 resolutions, and luckily RDR 2 does, otherwise you could end up with black bars the edges of the screen. There was a moment in the game when I rode my horse to the top of the ridge at sunset, and the view of that vast expanse of the old west was... well, to be honest, it was truly breathtaking. I've never had a gaming experience like this and now I'm totally hooked. I will definitely try more games to get this super immersive experience that this monitor gives you. Keep in mind that at these high resolutions you need a fairly powerful PC if you want a smooth gaming experience. The monitor has a slight curve, but it's actually quite thin and I just find it more comfortable to work with. I was using a friend's ultrawide monitor that had a really significant flex and I just didn't care. Now about the smoothness. This is my first monitor running above 60Hz. Now that I've experienced 144Hz, there's no turning back. Incredible smoothness in games is just unreal. This smoothness isn't just limited to games. Even when I'm productive or just navigating Windows, everything runs so smoothly. It's like I upgraded my computer's processor or something. It really is the difference between day and night. I like the connection options. You get 2 HDMI ports, a Display Port and a USB-C port, plus another USB Type A port. So my Windows PC is connected via HDMI and my Mac is connected via USB C from that, but I'm guessing simply the connectivity they offer. here. The included 10W speakers actually sound pretty good for the built-in speakers. The monitor also has a built-in KVM function. I enjoyed playing with it AND with PIP. As with anything, there are some downsides. The IPS panel here doesn't have anything like a mini-LED backlight, so there can be times when you can see some blooming, color bleeding (although both were fairly subtle), and blacks that aren't as deep black as some high-end ones panels. . I would definitely prefer the 32x10 aspect ratio instead of 32x9. Because of this, this monitor is slightly narrower in height compared to other monitors. It's wide enough for everyone to step right out, but I would prefer it to be higher. You'll notice that if you place it next to another monitor. The small joystick on the back of the monitor for controlling the internal settings should have been on the bottom center of the back of the monitor, not on the side. When you work, sit in the center of the monitor, not far left or right. Also, it's only an 8-bit monitor, not a 10-bit monitor, which is actually very important to me as a video editor. Brightness is just under 500 nits, which is VERY average for a new monitor in this price range. It's those little issues that really bother me about this monitor. Given the price, I just don't feel like I had to put up with such flaws. Deciding whether this monitor is right for you depends on how wide your monitor needs to be. This is the main selling point here. While the gameplay is seriously impressive, make sure your games support this ultra-wide aspect ratio. So if all you want is gaming, there are better monitors out there for you in my opinion. This monitor is truly a jack of all trades and a master of nothing. It's not stunning. However, it's pretty good at almost everything, which makes it a good monitor for me because the versatility for video editing, gaming, and having multiple inputs on screen at the same time satisfies my basic needs. I think 4 stars is pretty fair.
