The first thing you need to know about these pastels is that they are NOT meant to be used on pastel paper. It is necessary to use high-quality pastel cardboard, pastel mat or other surfaces treated with pastel primer. I've even had great success using them on 1500 grit sandpaper. If you use them on pastel paper, I promise you're going to hate them. These pastels are very buttery and blend beautifully! The colors are incredibly vibrant and vivid, and the range is pretty extensive. You can hold the edge to some extent, but you can also apply a lot of color in one stroke. Depending on the surface to be painted, they wear out quickly. They claim to be lightfast but based on the price I don't know how true that is. Update: I've used them on several paintings and they've quickly become my favorite set. They are just amazing on the right paper and the black in this set is the darkest, deepest black I have. My other, very expensive brands cannot be compared at all. Their big disadvantage is that it is not possible to order individual colors. You need to buy a new set to replace the paint. I draw a lot of space pastels and I get the hang of black pastels pretty quickly. Over time I end up with a lot of flowers in the drawer because I have to buy a new set every time I need replacements.
