Review on πŸŒ™ TANG PIN Moon Deer Ceramic Tea Mug with Infuser and Lid - 14.5 OZ, Black & Blue by Ryan Lawson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Like the proposed larger mug, beautiful and functional mug with lid and great built in brewer

Comes in an incredibly well packed box, using foam and plastic wrap to ensure the individual pieces don't roll in the box or bump into each other. The full mug and wooden handle extension, as well as the lid and main body of the brewer are made of durable ceramic. I don't feel like I'm going to break any part of it just by holding it in my hands and while it's always a bit annoying to hear ceramic on ceramic during assembly, there weren't any chips, cracks etc or otherwise damage. The frosting work is absolutely fine and well covered. The modeling texture on the outside of the cup and lid is clean and beautiful, with no uncomfortable or rough spots when you run your hands over them. The metal sieve in the teapot is thin enough so that no tea leaves slip into the cup. The strainer is only at the bottom of the teapot. This will not affect the soaking process, but does mean it will take some time for the liquid to go through. If you push the infusion into a very full mug, water will run down the sides of the infusion between it and the mug as the water is pushed out faster than it can get through the strainer holes. Therefore, slowly lower it into the water or pour water over the leaves in the brewer. It is very easy to clean and while I have yet to do so with this mug, I have successfully run the brewer in the dishwasher from a larger mug of the same style with no difficulty or damage. A full mug is supposedly dishwasher safe, but the wooden handle worries me. The coating on the wood looks like it will probably hold it, but the point where the mug and handle meet has a small gap that I'm concerned about water trapping and possibly getting moldy. The lid serves as a drip catcher and fulcrum. for the teapot when your tea has finished brewing. All parts of the ceramic become very hot when the drink inside is still very hot. The wooden handle doesn't change the temperature at all, but the point where the ceramic meets the wood changes the heat, so it's important to be careful when handling the mug after it's been filled or while it's warm. As in the previous paragraph, condensate from the steam from the boiling water will collect on the lid. When removing, be careful not to let the cover roll down on you. This is easy to avoid, but it's not something you can think about until it happens. The grip on this one is like the larger version, about 3 fingers, although something about it seems a little more comfortable to me? Not sure if it's the weight distribution due to the cup shape or the slightly different grip angle, but still. It is comfortable to hold in your hands. When the lid is open to use as a drip trap, the drink cools about as quickly as an open mug. If you need to take the infusion to another location, close the lid to keep the drink warm for about an additional hour. Don't expect the level of the thermos to keep you warm, as the ceramic will give off heat over time even when covered, but you won't be exposing your drink to the open air and it'll cool down quicker. Full Disclosure I'm trying this product out for a seller, but it doesn't affect my rating. I gave my honest review of the product as a frequent tea drinker and the owner of a large number of things to drink. :) At the same time, my communication with the seller was very pleasant! They were very polite and helpful throughout the ordeal. tl; Doctor: It's a great mug with a good brewer that doesn't leave a few leaves in your tea. Ceramic heats up when it comes into contact with hot water. Be careful. Dishwasher safe, but be careful not to allow water to collect between the ceramic and the wood of the handle. The brewer displaces water faster than it flows through the screen holes. Gently lower it when the mug is full, or fill the mug already with the brewer inside. In fact, all of my "cons" are either picky or cautionary to those unfamiliar with how heat penetrates ceramics.
